Quality starts long before a product reaches our shelves. At L’Artigiano, bringing authentic Italian food to Mauritius goes beyond selecting products. It means building lasting relationships with producers who share our commitment to quality, tradition and craftsmanship.
As part of this approach, we regularly visit our Italian suppliers to better understand their production processes, exchange with their teams and strengthen the partnerships we have developed over the years.
Our recent visits to Balocco, Abbasciano and Surgital, three of our valued Italian partners, offered an opportunity to experience first-hand the expertise behind the products we bring to Mauritius.
Balocco: A Legacy of Italian Pastry Excellence
Founded in 1927, Balocco is a family-owned Italian company with a rich heritage in traditional pastries and biscuits. Known for its panettone, pandoro and wide selection of Italian biscuits, the brand has built its reputation on generations of expertise and a passion for Italian baking.
During our visit to Balocco’s production facilities, we had the opportunity to discover the different stages of manufacturing and meet with the company’s management, commercial and production teams.
Beyond gaining a deeper understanding of the processes behind its products, the visit reinforced the importance of maintaining a close relationship with a producer that combines tradition, expertise and a commitment to quality.
For L’Artigiano, Balocco represents more than a range of Italian specialities. It is a partnership that allows us to share a part of Italy’s culinary heritage with our customers in Mauritius.
Abbasciano: Bringing the Freshness of Italy to Mauritius
Established in 1957, Abbasciano is a family-owned Italian dairy producer specialising in mozzarella, burrata, ricotta and other traditional Italian cheeses.
With roots in Italian cheesemaking traditions, the company combines artisanal expertise with modern production techniques, placing quality and freshness at the heart of its operations.
Our collaboration with Abbasciano goes back many years. Through this partnership, we receive weekly air shipments of fresh Italian dairy products, allowing us to offer our customers in Mauritius a selection of authentic Italian specialities.
Visiting Abbasciano’s facilities gave us valuable insight into its production methods, organisation and attention to quality.
It was also an opportunity to strengthen a long-standing relationship built on mutual trust and a shared appreciation for Italian food excellence.
Surgital: Where Italian Pasta Tradition Meets Innovation
Founded in 1980 in Emilia-Romagna, the heart of Italy’s Food Valley, Surgital has grown from a small artisanal pasta workshop into a leading producer of frozen fresh pasta, sauces and ready meals.
The family-owned company combines traditional Italian pasta-making expertise with modern production technology, preserving the authenticity of Italian recipes while meeting the demands of professional kitchens around the world.
During our visit to Surgital’s facilities, we had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of its production approach and the expertise behind its products.
The visit also included a tasting guided by Surgital’s chef, offering a first-hand experience of the quality, precision and attention to detail that define its pasta.
For L’Artigiano, this partnership reflects our commitment to working with producers who combine Italian culinary tradition, innovation and consistent quality, helping us bring authentic Italian specialities to Mauritius.
Why Visiting Our Italian Suppliers Matters
For L’Artigiano, supplier visits are an important part of our approach to sourcing authentic Italian products.
Meeting our partners directly allows us to better understand how products are made, gain greater visibility into their quality standards and maintain an open dialogue with the people responsible for their production.
These visits also create opportunities to exchange knowledge, discuss future developments and reinforce the trust that supports our long-term collaborations.
Most importantly, they help us maintain a direct connection with the craftsmanship, traditions and expertise behind the products we select.
From Italy to Mauritius: Partnerships Built on Trust
Our relationships with producers such as Balocco, Abbasciano and Surgital reflect what we value at L’Artigiano: quality, authenticity and lasting partnerships.
